Grudging non-hatred

WTF? Actual Simplicity?

This morning I suffered a spasm of gratitude and wrote a positive review of the Simple White Noise App. None of this was my fault. The app is a miracle of non-shittiness and the review practically effused itself:

Will Wright once said “Your Japanese garden is not complete until there is nothing else that you can remove.”

By some miracle of discipline, Simple White Noise App has achieved this ideal.

It does exactly what a white noise app should do, and, even better, absolutely nothing else.

Thank you for everything you did not do.

Unfortunately, this positivity comes at a price. I pledged to maintain a positivity-to-negativity ratio on Design Grouch that faithfully mirrors the dismal reality of contemporary design, and I take my promises seriously. This gratuitous act of appreciation has thrown that ratio off. I owe the nonexistent readership of this blog a payload of vitriol, dissatisfaction, bitter disappointment and generalized disgust sufficient to put our accounts back in the blackest shade of black.
